PedalPGH is an annual charity ride for BikePGH, a non-profit that works to make Pittsburgh safer and more accessible for cyclists and pedestrians. T-shirts are distributed to participating cyclists to help fundraise for the organization. I pitched a design for BikePGH's 2023 t-shirt design contest.
Process
Early sketches prioritized conveying a sense of movement, trialing different framing mechanisms to house the design and lettering, and exploring different key symbols to anchor the design as distinctly "Pittsburgh." As "The City of Bridges," the famous golden Roberto Clemente Bridge emerged as a clever way to frame the majority of the design and served as a parallel to BikePGH's logo, which features the Fort Pitt Bridge. I adjusted the angle of one of the two main cyclists in the image to create more dimension and the sense that she was moving through the space, instead of just existing sedentary on a flat plane.

Final Design
Completed in Procreate, the final design is a playful celebration of biking through Pittsburgh's hilly streets. Pittsburgh's recognizable downtown skyline sits at the heart of the image adjacent to one of Pittsburgh's three iconic rivers. The Fort Pitt Bridge featured in BikePGH's logo peeks out at the edge. A section of the Roberto Clemente bridge frames the landscape. In the background, a biker sports a t-shirt with Pittsburgh's area code. This design works well on t-shirts or as a poster for expanded merchandising opportunities.
