Forbes & Fifth is an academic journal published by the University of Pittsburgh. It is unique in that it is interdisciplinary–combining research, academic articles, creative writing and artwork–and intercollegiate, welcoming submissions from students at other universities. With an interdisciplinary framework in mind, as Lead Designer I wanted the graphics and layout of the journal to reflect the interplay between academia and the visual arts. Articles and images were to occupy shared space and frame one another, text was meant to be less static, and there was an intended overall playfulness and vibrancy as typically separate spheres joined together in a celebration of thought and exploration. I used InDesign to establish the layout of the journal and Procreate to illustrate original art interwoven throughout the text.
